The country around Canada North Lodge is built for it. Mixed timber, old logging roads, and natural cover stretch in every direction, and the birds have it largely to themselves. Pressure on these woods is low, habitat is abundant, and the season opens when the leaves are turning and the dogs run well.
Pace is moderate, terrain is forgiving, and the action is fast. Whether you have decades of upland hunting behind you or you are picking up the sport, the grouse hunt fits in alongside a regular trip to the lodge without changing your routine.

Hunt mornings, fish afternoons. Our grouse packages run September 15 through October 1, which lines up with some of the best walleye and pike fishing of the year. Cooler water, cooperative fish, and zero summer crowds on the chain.
Boat and motor is included with every grouse package, so on the days you want to put the gun down and pick up a rod, the gear is sitting at the dock ready to go.
Species in the woods: Ruffed, Spruce, and Sharptail Grouse. Species on the water: Walleye, Northern Pike, Lake Trout, Smallmouth Bass, and Yellow Perch.
What is covered.
Our Grouse Hunting Package includes everything offered in the Unguided American Plan Package, with the addition of your grouse hunting experience. That means a modern cabin overlooking the lake, daily maid service, a hearty cooked-to-order breakfast, and family-style dinners pulled out of the kitchen each evening.
You also get access to prime grouse hunting habitat, hunting trails, timber, and natural cover, and a boat and motor for the fishing days. Hunting licenses are not included and can be purchased online before you travel.
You bring: upland gun and shells, blaze orange, sturdy boots, brush pants, your rod and reel if you plan to fish, and a license. We can recommend a local processor if you want birds cleaned and packed for the trip home.
